PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

TruthQuest Joins Watchman Fellowship as New California Office

July 16, 1999 -- Watchman Fellowship is pleased to announce that TruthQuest Institute has become part of their team. Watchman Fellowship, which now has offices in eight states, is an evangelical Christian counter-cult apologetics and discernment ministry focusing on cults, new religious movements, the occult, and the New Age movement. James Walker, president of Watchman Fellowship, explains: "It's a perfect fit. TruthQuest is a well-respected ministry with similar goals and objectives. This gives us an important West Coast presence and provides some topnotch, quality additions to our research and writing staff."

The director of Watchman's Sacramento office is Everett Shropshire who co-founded TruthQuest Institute and served as its president. Rev. Shropshire is an ordained Southern Baptist Pastor and holds a BA in Political Science from California State University, Long Beach, and an MA in theology from Fuller Seminary. He has done postgraduate study at California State University, Sacramento and National University. He currently is an adjunct faculty member at Capital Bible College in Sacramento.

TruthQuest cofounder John Morehead is also now part of the Watchman team. Mr. Morehead was a member of a Mormon sect, the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, for seven years. John left the sect in 1983 as a result of reading works on Mormonism by the late Walter Martin, and received Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. He has studied cults, apologetics and comparative religions for over 15 years. He regularly writes, lectures, and is interviewed by the media on related subjects. He has completed training and is certified as an Interfaith Witness Associate with the Southern Baptist Home Mission Board.

Also joining the Watchman staff is Dick Baer, a former Mormon Melchizedek priest who is considered to be one of the leading Christian authorities on the Mormon faith. After leaving the Mormon Church and becoming a Christian, Mr. Baer founded Ex-Mormons and Christian Alliance (EMCA), an evangelical Christian ministry reaching out to Mormons with the true gospel. EMCA recently merged with TruthQuest Institute. Dick began full-time Christian ministry in 1981 and has given over 2,500 presentations in approximately 2,000 churches throughout the US and internationally. He is a graduate of Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah with a BS in sociology.

We at the TN Valley Bible Students Association (TVBSA) would like to invite and direct your attention to a Discernment Conference we will be holding on September 18 at the New Life Church of God, Orlando, Florida. We appreciate the openness of Rev. Scott Pilkington, the pastor of the church for extending the invitation to the TVBSA to hold such a conference, and it is our sincere prayer that it be used to equip the Body of Christ in the region for serious discernment ministry.

These sessions are not intended to be viewed as exhaustive in scope, but "entry-level" classes on the essentials regarding each subject title. Classes will utilize audio and visual presentations, as well as handouts when needed. We will be conducting two separate role play presentations on how to conduct Christian witness to Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses as well. On Sunday, September 19, the testimonies of ex-Mormon Dan Moreschi and ex-Jehovah's Witness Diane Gholson will be shared during morning Sunday School classes.

Complete schedule, registration, directional and workshop information may be accessed at our website. The conference is free but requires pre-registration as space at the church is limited. Audiotapes of all sessions will be made.
